Meet the Staff

Julie Lesher, Dentist

Julie Lesher, Dentist

"Dream Big."

When Julie was in high school, she had a particularly “encouraging” guidance counselor. He told her that she shouldn’t bother applying to college because she “wasn’t college material.”

Boy was he wrong.

Many young adults would have taken an assessment like Julie’s quite literally, possibly giving up on their dreams. Fortunately, Julie didn’t. From a young age, Julie had been working in her Dad’s dental office. Inspired by one of the dental assistants, Bonnie, Julie and had a vision of becoming a dental assistant herself, and was not deterred by the judgment leveled by her counselor.

While in college, Julie held a part time job at a dental office working with children. Here, she had a particularly encouraging boss. He told her that she was dentist material and should go to dental school. So she did.

While you might say “the rest is history,” for Julie, Dentistry on Vine is a work in progress. As a self-confessed “perfectionist,” Julie is always learning more about her field and working to better herself and practice. Julie has completed the following continuing education opportunities:

  • Post Graduate Esthetic courses and Clinical Grand Rounds at the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry
  • Core occlusion and restorative courses and technical workshops at Dawson Academy
  • Core education classes and monthly study sessions with an established group of Dentists at Spear Education.

Her main goal? Providing the best service and care to her patients possible. Julie believes that knowledge is a great gift, and spends a lot of her time educating patients, empowering them to make good decisions about their dental health.

For Julie, her main joy is maintaining the personal relationships that she develops with her patients. Because dentistry is an “intimate” profession, Julie gets a unique opportunity to learn more about people and their lives than would typically be possible. Julie believes that every person has a story, and she loves hearing each one.

When Julie isn’t working, she’s spending time with her family at their cabin, working in her gardens and playing with her crazy dog McHugh! Julie lives in Hudson with her husband, Michael and son Patrick. She enjoys traveling to visit her daughter, Mary.

Zach Walgenbach, Dentist

Zach Walgenbach, Dentist

Dr. Zach Walgenbach grew up in Waseca, Minnesota and graduated from Waseca High School. He received his undergraduate degree from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota, with a bachelor’s degree in biology and a minor in music. He continued his studies at the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry where he graduated with his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. While he was a student, Dr. Walgenbach took several elective and honors courses in general dentistry, including those in endodontics and pediatric dentistry. He received the Quality Care in a Caring Manner Award for his clinical excellence and compassionate treatment with patients. The Academy of General Dentistry Board of Trustees recognized Dr. Walgenbach for having exhibited the greatest leadership, interest, knowledge, and proficiency in the field of general dentistry while in school, and awarded him the Academy of General Dentistry University of Minnesota Senior Leader Award. In addition, Dr. Walgenbach received an award from the American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry for his outstanding achievement in the pursuit of excellence in the study of Esthetic Dentistry while a student at the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry.
Since graduating from dental school Dr. Walgenbach has continued to hold himself to high standards. He has taken hundreds of hours of continuing education.  Most recently he has completed an extensive multi-year Postgraduate Program in Contemporary and Esthetic Dentistry through the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry.
Dr. Walgenbach spent four years caring for patients at a private dental office in Blaine, MN prior to connecting with Dentistry on Vine.  While he enjoyed his time in Blaine he felt as though something was missing.  After meeting Dr. Lesher, he was excited to have found a partner with similar practice philosophies. Once he met the staff and experienced the vibrant Hudson community he knew Dentistry on Vine was where he wanted to spend the rest of his career.
Community involvement and service work has always been a central part of Dr. Walgenbach’s life. He first started participating with the Give Kids a Smile program in 2009. He has also been involved with Minnesota’s Mission of Mercy program. Most recently, he has traveled with a Minnesota-based dental relief group to Antigua, Guatemala and San Rafael, Guatemala, providing dental treatment to the underserved.
Dr. Walgenbach is currently a member of the American Dental Association, the Wisconsin Dental Association, and the Academy of General Dentistry. When Dr. Walgenbach is not treating patients, he can be found enjoying the outdoors with his wife Erica and their daughter Chloe. They enjoy boating, biking, camping, and hiking. Dr. Walgenbach also enjoys working with his hands and auto restoration.

Kim D., Office Manager

Kim D., Office Manager

"I'm staying here until I retire or die. Whichever comes first."

As children, we play with bouncy balls, build forts, and occupy our time playing tag with friends. Much of Kim’s childhood was spent brushing her parents’ false teeth.

From early on, it was clear that Kim had a passion for dentistry.

As Dentistry on Vine’s Office Manager, you’ll meet Kim right when you walk in the door. (She’ll be the one behind the desk with a huge smile.) In addition to keeping the dental team organized and prepared, Kim spends a lot of her time chatting with patients in-person or over the phone. Kim feels that her most important responsibility is letting each patient know they’re important and that someone cares about them. She goes the extra mile to answer patient questions and be a friend to each person who drops by.

While you’re in the office, ask Kim about her camping or snowmobiling adventures and you’ll have an easy friend. Her favorite part about Dentistry on Vine? It’s not just an excellent place to get your teeth cared for: it’s a place to swap stories, make friends, and feel like part of a family.

Lauren P., Scheduling Coordinator

Lauren P., Scheduling Coordinator

"I love helping patients achieve the smile of their dreams. "

Lauren began her college years in Nuclear Medicine Technology, but things changed quickly when the school closed the program! She loved health care and thought back to her childhood dental hygienist who always made her feel special, even displaying Lauren's artwork proudly. She wanted to give people that same experience and landed in the dental field. Since becoming a dental assistant and learning the front desk, she has been inspired by the great people she has worked with to love dentistry!

Here at Dentistry on Vine, she loves welcoming everyone and hearing about their day. She also loves being able to help patients understand their treatments and how it will enable them to be healthy and happy with their smile.

When she's not in the office, she loves trying new restaurants with her husband, walking her dog and any art project.

Melissa B., Dental Assistant

Melissa B., Dental Assistant

"Helping people puts a smile on my face."

Since she can remember, Melissa wanted to help people. And, despite spending high school career day with her Stepmom (a dental assistant) Melissa wanted to be a nurse.

We’re glad she changed her mind.

Ask any Dentistry on Vine patient, and they’ll tell you they’re glad Melissa chose to work on teeth. Besides being knowledgeable, friendly, and extremely good at her job, Melissa brings a level of love and passion to her work and patients that’s rare. She believes in being the best she can be everyday, and giving her patients the information, care, and attention they need to be able to do the same.

In her free time, Melissa might be found biking, skiing, at the dirt bike track, or camping with her family. Someday, she’d like to travel around the world (there’s so much to see in so little time). But, until then, you’ll find her in Hudson, happy at work on the corner of Second and Vine.

Jessica H., Dental Assistant

Jessica H., Dental Assistant

"I want to make each patient feel special."

Although Jessica started working at a dental office while she was in high school, she wasn’t entirely sure that a career in dentistry was in the cards. This all changed, though, when her employer mentioned that she’d be good in the field and encouraged her to pursue a career as a dental assistant.

Fast forward to now, and you’ll find Jessica at Dentistry on Vine. We’re  extremely lucky to have this friendly, knowledgeable 10-year veteran as part of our team: her smiling face keeps everyone—patients and staff—in a great mood.

Jessica understands that going to the dentist isn’t everyone’s idea of a good time, so she does her best to keep her patients engaged in conversation and comfortable. Her specialty is working with anxious parents and young children (being a mother to three young daughters herself, Jessica has no problem relating to these patients).

When she’s not in the office, Jessica enjoys days at the beach with her husband and girls, paddleboarding and traveling anywhere near the ocean.

Donna M. L., Dental Assistant

Donna M. L., Dental Assistant

"I love that I get to meet, talk, and laugh with people each and every day."

A pesky childhood overbite and a sweet orthodontist deserve the credit for Donna’s dental career. During her many hours at the orthodontic office, Donna watched her dentist and dental assistants create beautiful smiles, all while having fun and making her feel like part of the family. Donna wanted to create great dental experiences when she grew up, too.

Whether they’re three or 93, Donna makes sure every patient at Dentistry on Vine has a pleasant experience: she goes out of her way to get to know people and give them a reason to look forward to their next visit.

If you have the inside scoop on a great restaurant, share it with Donna and you’ll quickly win her over (she’s a foodie who keeps a list of new and interesting dining spots to try). But, when she’s not enjoying a new restaurant or chats with her patients, you’ll find her spending time with her husband and son, wrangling her gang of four-legged pets, or spending time in the great outdoors.

Melissa S., Dental Hygienist

Melissa S., Dental Hygienist

"Inspiring patients through education and kindness."

Believe it or not, as a kid Melissa actually enjoyed going to the dentist. (Considering her need for braces, this was probably a good thing.) Melissa’s frequent visits to the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry gave her more than straight teeth, though: at the U of M, Melissa learned a lot about dentistry and was inspired to pursue a career in dental hygiene.

Knowing that oral hygiene influences a person’s overall health, Melissa takes special care to educate patients at Dentistry on Vine about caring for their teeth and gums. She loves when children proudly exclaim that they’ve flossed and show off their pearly whites or when she’s able to help patients resolve long-standing health issues. Melissa makes it a priority to make each person feel comfortable and treat them kindly.

When she’s not in the office, you’ll probably run into Melissa somewhere outside. At her core, she loves spending time in the country where you can see the stars and enjoy nature. Her favorite hobbies? Horseback riding, skiing, snowshoeing, biking, and running.

Angela V., Dental Hygienist

Angela V., Dental Hygienist

"I love sharing my passion to educate, motivate, and inspire patients toward their optimal oral and overall health"

Angela has always enjoyed working to help people.  She started out her career as a travel agent, but when her Aunt (who was in the dental field) encouraged her to go back to school for dental hygiene, she knew that would be a better fit because of her passion for healthcare.  Angela reached her goal and graduated from Chippewa Valley Technical College in Eau Claire.

Angela's focus is helping patients have an understanding of how important the connection is between their oral health and overall health.  She is very thankful to be part of a team that is so dedicated to patient care.  Dentistry on Vine is a place where patients are treated as people, not just teeth.

When not in the office, you can find Angela enjoying the great outdoors camping, hiking and gardening with her husband and two teenage girls.

Chelsea P., Clinical Assistant

Chelsea P., Clinical Assistant

"I love that I can be part of a great team and help things run smoothly around the office."

Ever since she can remember, Chelsea has been a tooth person. Teeth are the first thing she notices about a person and she loves the idea that we can help make a difference in someone’s life by improving their smile.

A couple years back, Chelsea transformed her smile with the help of Dr. Lesher. When a part-time position opened in the office, she jumped at the opportunity. While in the dental chair, she experienced first-hand that dentistry can be fun and she does much to contribute to the joyful atmosphere here at Dentistry on Vine.

In the summertime, you’ll probably find Chelsea on the beach playing volleyball. The rest of the year she might be traveling with her newlywed husband in their airstream.
